DefenTect™ is a completely new approach to radiation detection. It is software driven solution that identifies the presence and characteristics of gamma rays when they strike networked sensors. The radiation detection devices called GammaTect™ sensors are small self-contained “smart” components that detect, analyze and inform security management on the presence of threat level radiation from the point of installation on the host TCP/IP network. The addition of strategically placed GammaTect Plus™ scintillation sensors enables DefenTect to identify the isotope causing the radiation, providing control over “innocent positive” alarms.
DefenTect provides a very versatile radiation detection solution. GammaTect sensors can be positioned adjacent to security cameras to provide visual identification of the potential threat. They can be used in conjunction with networked access control security systems to assure that radioactive material is neither entering nor leaving a designated area. They can also be hidden from sight to prevent compromising by the terrorists or anxiety from the public.
DefenTect will enable customers with IP networks to add radiation detection capability and increase the utility of their existing security systems. Customers can designate alerts to be triggered to cell phones, pagers, PDAs, or other clients through text messages, calls or e-mail. Radiation alert thresholds are configured using a web browser from any part of the globe.
The radiation detection technology used by GammaTect sensors has been validated at two highly respected radiation laboratories. Testing indicates that the sensor detects gamma radiation below 2 mR/hr in less than one second. This means a GammaTect sensor will detect a "dirty bomb" constructed with 60 Ci of Cesium 137 (Cs-137) at a distance of 83.82 meters, or 275 feet.
Deter
Deploying DefenTect in locations that store radiological materials will help safeguard them and notify authorities of illicit removal. These storage sites include hospitals, food irradiation plants, oil and energy exploration firms, university and other laboratories, as well as various government and military facilities.
